అది 1969 జూలై 20... మానవ చరిత్రలో మరపురాని రోజు.. అమెరికాకు చెందిన నీల్ ఆర్మ్స్ స్ట్రాంగ్ మరో ఇద్దరు  వ్యోమగామిల బృందంతో కూడిన  అపోలో -11 అంతరిక్ష నౌక అంతరిక్షంలోకి రివ్వున దూసుకుపోయింది.  ముగ్గురులో ఒకరు కక్ష్యలో తిరుగుతుండగా... ఆర్మ్ స్ట్రాంగ్, ఎడ్విన్ అల్ డ్రిన్‌‍లు అపోలో నుంచి వేరుపడి మరో చిన్న  వ్యోమనౌకలో చంద్రగ్రహానికి చేరారు. యూవత్ ప్రపంచం వీక్షిస్తుండగా ఆర్మ్ స్ట్రాంగ్ చందమామ పై కాలు మోపారు. 21 గంటల పాటు గడిపిన తరువాత వ్యోమనౌక ద్వారా ప్రధాన నౌకను చేరుకుని 195 గంటలు తరువాత భూమికి చేరుకున్నారు. దింతో  చంద్రుని పై తొలిఅడుగు వేసిన అస్ట్రానాట్‌గా నీల్ ఆర్మ్స్ స్ట్రాంగ్ చరిత్రపుటల్లో నిలిచారు.

1930లో అమెరికాలోని ఓహియో రాష్ట్రంలో జన్మించిన  ఆర్మ్స్ స్ట్రాంగ్‌కు చిన్ననాటి నుంచే విమానాలంటే మక్కువ. ఆసక్తితో పైలట్ వృత్తిని ఎంచుకున్న స్ట్రాంగ్ అమెరికా నావికాదళంలో కొంత కాలం పనిచేశారు. అంతరిక్షం మీద ఆసక్తితో వ్యోమగామీగా మారిపోయారు. చంద్రమండల యాత్ర తరువాత అనేక విశ్వవిద్యాలయాల్లో  ప్రొఫెసర్‌గా సేవలందించారు. ఇటీవలే 82వ జన్మదినోత్సవాన్ని కుటుంబ సభ్యుల మధ్య జరుపుకున్న ఆర్మ్స్ స్ట్రాంగ్  ఆ తర్వాత హృద్రోగ సమస్యతో బైపాస్ సర్జరీ చేయించుకున్నారు. అంతా కోలుకుంటున్నారని అనుకుంటున్న తరుణంలో ఆయన ఆగస్టు 25న అమెరికాలో కన్నుమూశారు.
